Self Defence Myths

A Self Defence fight is like a UFC match..... Couldn't be more wrong. In the octagon you have two evenly matched (weight category) fighters that both have good training, they know when they are going to fight, they train and they get to warm up and stretch before the match. They fight to rules and yes even here they have no go zones that they can't strike, there is a referee in the ring, medics on hand and NEVER a surprise weapon to face.

The top ten things you are going to learn to make you safe....This one cracks me up, every place you go martial arts wise, advertises that they are going to train you in; Self defence from the top ten attacks that you will face. Problem is everybody’s top ten seems to be different? How do 20 different places all have a different top ten, maybe they have just made up the best top ten to suit their style? Seriously check it out Google "top 10 self defence techniques" nobodies top ten are the same.

He attacked me I automatically have the right to defend myself.... True only to a certain level, you definitely have the right for self defence however this IS a limited right. For example someone pushes you. Do you have the right to beat them near to death with a baseball bat? No obviously not. You have the right to defend yourself, but if you use too much force - you also could be charged with Assault!

Just like the "Top ten list" there could easily be hundreds more myths under this heading these are but just a few. Please email me your top myth(s) I am only too happy to review it and add it here. (With due credit of course).
